# How to Choose Which Translations Are Displayed

## Why?

* Some members prefer to only see selected languages in the translations rather than all the translations.
* Sometimes this is useful when you want to [quickly do a lot of linking](http://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/articles/show/quickly-linking).

## How

* Go to your profile;
* In the Settings area, click on Edit;
* In Options, you'll see a field called "Languages". Just follow the instructions under that field.
* Click on Save.

The complete list of ISO codes can be accessed on this page:
[tatoeba.org/stats/sentences_by_language](http://tatoeba.org/eng/stats/sentences_by_language)

## Warning

* Some members who use this setting forget they have have limited what is displayed and sometimes can't figure out why sentences seem to be missing.

## Behavior

If you do not have any languages in the "Languages" list in your setting, then:

- if you set the "To" language to a specific language, you will see results in that language
- if you set the "To" language to "Any language", you will see all results

If you do have languages in the "Languages" list in your setting, then:

- if you set the "To" language to a specific language, you will see results in that language plus the languages in your list
- if you set the "To" language to "Any language", you will only see results in the languages in your list

If you want to keep your "Languages" non-empty and want to do a search that only finds results in a target language, perform an advanced search and specify that language under "Show translations in:"

## Warning

* Some members who use this setting forget they have have limited what is displayed and sometimes can't figure out why sentences seem to be missing.
