11# How to request a new language to be added
22
33## Do these 3 things
44
551. Add 5 or more sentences in your language.
66
77 * Use auto-detect when submitting sentences.
88
99 * After submitting a sentence, click the flag icon and choose "other language."
1010
11112. Create a public list with the name of the language. Add your sentences to this list.
1212
13133. Send an e-mail to team@tatoeba.org with the following information:
1414
1515 * The name of the language in English.
1616
1717 * An icon (a flag, or something else) that can be used for the language.
1818
1919 * The [3-letter ISO code](http://www-01.sil.org/iso639-3/codes.asp?order=reference_name&letter=a) for the language. We only add languages that have a 3-letter ISO code.
2020
2121## More Details
2222
2323**1)IMPORTANT:** We cannot add your language if it does not have an [ISO 639-3](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_639-3) code. At this point we already have a lot of languages to deal with, and it's a bit too complicated to deal with languages that are not "officially" recognized.
2424
2525**2)** In your email, tell us what icon we can use for each requested language. It does not necessarily have to be the flag of a country. We just want a picture that people can easily associate to the language. If you don't have any specific image, give us some ideas of what we could use to represent the language (a color, a symbol, an animal). Give all the ideas you have so that we can invent a nice icon for the language. Keep in mind that our icons are only 30x20 pixels.
2626
2727**3)** Translate 5 sentences into your language(s). Choose auto-detect when selecting the language for the sentences. The language detection is likely to fail, but click on the language icon and select "other language" in the list that appears. (It's the first option.) After the new language is added to Tatoeba, you will be able to set it correctly for this sentence.
2828
2929**4)** Create a public list and give it the name of your language. Add your 5 translations into that list. Feel free to translate more than 5 sentences, but always add them into the list, so that we can easily find them!
3030
3131**5)** Don't hesitate to ask us if you don't know how to do something!
3232
3333**IMPORTANT:** We will only add your language(s) if you have done all of this. And please forgive us if we take forever despite your going through all these steps.
