# Code of Conduct
## Where to report bad behavior
Please report problems to us at **community-admins@tatoeba.org**.
## Intro
We understand that it is not possible for everyone to get along with everyone. Drama will inevitably happen over and over again. This article will not prevent bad behavior from happening, but it is a reminder of the things we do not tolerate, the sanctions we can apply and our recommendations on what to do if you are involved in a conflict or are witnessing bad behavior. We need everyone to make an effort to keep the peace and love in Tatoeba.
## We do not tolerate
* **Insults**: saying something offensive about someone or some people.
* **Harassment**: bothering someone repeatedly.
* **Accusations**: stating that someone is doing something with bad intentions.
* **Blaming**: saying that a problem is someone’s fault.
* **Provocation**: writing something that intentionally makes other people angry.
* **Retaliation**: replying to insults, harassment, accusations, blaming or provocation with something that doesn't help.
* **Bad faith**: lying, deceiving, being dishonest.
* **Sabotage**: intentionally damaging the corpus.
Generally speaking, we do not tolerate any kind of behavior that harms the collaborative and civilized atmosphere of Tatoeba.
## Recommendations
If someone is causing you trouble, we recommend that you **simply ignore** the person and report the behavior to the admins. **Do NOT try to reply** to any provocation; this will most likely cause more trouble.
If you see someone being the target of a bad behavior, we also recommend you to simply report the behavior. Do not try to defend the target. If you feel you cannot stand there and do nothing, then you may send a PRIVATE message to express your support to the targeted person. But please, avoid any public intervention; it will most likely cause more unnecessary drama.
Report the problem to us at **community-admins@tatoeba.org**.
## Sanctions
Admins will first send warnings to the offender, and the offender has the possibility to delete or edit the offensive content into something more appropriate. The offensive content may be a sentence or the user profile description, not necessarily a comment.
Admins may take the decision to hide, edit or delete the content without warning, in cases where the content is really harmful and would be better removed as fast as possible, or in cases where the offender has already had such prior warnings.
If, after everything, the warnings happened to be insufficient, and the behavior of the offenders is too much to handle for the time that admins can dedicate to such things, then the offender will be suspended or banned for a temporary or unlimited period of time.
Being suspended means that the offender can no longer contribute new sentences but can still edit their existing sentences and can still post comments. Being banned means that the user can no longer log in.
There is no general rule about how long we suspend or ban people. We will try to be as fair as possible, but we can never be completely fair.

# Code of Conduct
This code of conduct is a general guideline of how we expect Tatoeba members to behave for the community to remain healthy.
## We strive to
* **Be respectful**. Accept people for who they are and treat them with dignity regardless of their opinions.
* **Be understanding**. Show compassion and empathy towards others.
* **Be patient**. Give people time and take your time. No matter the situation, we are not in a race, we are not in a rush.
## We do not tolerate
* **Insults**: saying something offensive about someone or some people.
* **Harassment**: bothering someone repeatedly.
If you consider that someone's behavior is not compliant to the Code of Conduct, the first step is to try to talk to this person *in private* and explain why you found their behavior unacceptable.
You can send a private message to a member by going to their profile page and clicking on the "Contact" button.
We encourage members to resolve issues on their own whenever possible before escalating the issue because we believe this helps build a better understanding between members, which is essential for a healthy community.
We also encourage members to use private communication channels as much as possible because posting comments about someone's behavior on public spaces can easily turn into public shaming, which we do not believe to be helpful in conflict resolution.
## Reporting unacceptable behavior
In the event that an issue cannot be resolved privately, you can send an email to **community-admins@tatoeba.org** or a private message to [TatoebaAdmins](https://tatoeba.org/eng/user/profile/TatoebaAdmins).
Community admins will decide case by case what is the best course of action to prevent further harm. Actions that community admins can perform in case of lack of cooperation include:
* Hiding or deleting a comment
* Editing or deleting a sentence
* Blocking an account from contributing sentences
* Suspending an account
