How to Become an Advanced Contributor

A Short Explanation for Those Who Don't Read English Well
If you have been contributing on the website for a while and you feel the need to either link indirect translations or add tags to sentences, you should write to Pfirsichbaeumchen and say "Please consider making me an advanced contributor."
After you become an Advanced Contributor, you will be able to do these 2 things.
If you don't read English well, you don't need to read the rest of this page.
If you have been contributing on the website for a while and you feel the need to either link indirect translations or add tags to sentences, you should write to Pfirsichbaeumchen, Shishir, and/or alexmarcelo and ask for "advanced contributor" status. See the details below.
This is not really a "promotion" based on ability, but a change in what you can do on the website, so you should not apply for this status if you do not need to do these tasks.
What can advanced contributors do?
Advanced contributors have access to two permissions not granted to regular contributors. They can:
If you want to become an advanced contributor
Step 1. Contact one of the following admins:
to inform him or her of your wish. In your message, please explain why you have decided to apply.
Step 2. The admins will have their own opinion on whether or not to grant you the new status, but the opinion of the rest of the community matters. So once the admin has made sure your application is a serious application, he or she will announce it on the Wall and ask for opinions.
By default, the announcement will state that these opinions should be sent only by private message to the admin. Any post on the Wall stating an opinion about you as a candidate will be deleted. You can, however, indicate in your application that you are okay with people replying publicly to the announcement. In that case, the announcement will state that contributors can give their opinions either publicly or by private message.
Step 3. You will be informed by private message of the decision. If the decision was positive, there will also be an announcement on the Wall to inform the rest of the community that you are now an advanced contributor. If the decision is negative, there will be no public announcement, but you will be given the reasons why the decision was negative in the private message. If you feel the request was unfairly denied or ignored, the first thing to do is to explain to the admin why you believe this is the case. (For instance, perhaps he or she is unaware of some of your contributions.) If you do not receive a satisfactory response, contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Note that Pfirsichbaeumchen, Shishir, and alexmarcelo are part of the team, so they will receive your e-mail. Unless you have exhausted your other options, please do not post your grievances on the Wall, since this will probably not end up helping you.
If you want someone else to become an advanced contributor
Step 1. Talk to them to make sure they're interested, and encourage them to apply. We will NOT grant the status of advanced contributor to someone who doesn't want it.
Step 2. You should also contact the admin and indicate that you support that person's becoming an advanced contributor. This way, admins will know that there is a demand for a specific contributor to become an advanced contributor, and if they do apply, their application will be more likely to be accepted.
Conditions to become an advanced contributor
This status is given to users who are fairly familiar with the project and have made sufficient contributions to it.
First, make sure you have read and understood the ENTIRE guide to being a good contributor.
The decision to grant you the status of advanced contributor depends on:
- how long you have been a member (in general we would wait until you've been a member for at least two weeks)
- how much you have contributed (which is not limited to adding sentences and translations; comments on sentences also count)
- how well you understand Tatoeba (especially the concepts of "linking" and "tagging")
- how many other members support your candidacy
Removal of advanced contributor status
Advanced contributor status may be removed for any of the following reasons:
- the advanced contributor wishes to give up his or her status, for whatever reason
- destructive behavior, as determined by the admins
