Advanced Contributors

What can advanced contributors do?

Advanced contributors currently have access to two permissions not granted to regular contributors. They can:

  1. link/unlink sentences
  2. tag sentences

Generally speaking, if we implement a feature that is a bit tricky and experimental, we make it available to advanced contributors before making it globally available.

Procedure to become an advanced contributor

If you want to become an advanced contributor

Step 1. Contact an admin to inform him or her of your wish to become one. In your message, please explain why you have decided to apply to become an advanced contributor. In general, only one admin (most likely the one you've contacted) will evaluate your application, but there can be more admins involved if needed.

Step 2. Admins will have their own opinion on whether or not to grant you the status of advanced contributor, but the opinion of the rest of the community matters. So once the admins have made sure your application is a serious application, they will announce it on the Wall and ask for opinions. By default, the announcement will state that these opinions should be sent only by private message to the admin who posted the announcement. Any reply stating an opinion about you as a candidate will be deleted. You can, however, indicate in your application that you are okay with people replying publicly to the announcement. In that case, the announcement will state that contributors can give their opinions either publicly or by private message.

Step 3. You will be informed by private message of the decision. If the decision was positive, there will also be an announcement on the Wall to inform the rest of the community that you are now an advanced contributor. If the decision is negative, there will be no public announcement, but you will be given the reasons why the decision was negative in the private message.

If you want someone to become an advanced contributor

Step 1. Talk to them to make sure they're interested, and encourage them to apply. We will NOT grant the status of advanced contributor to someone who doesn't want it.

Step 2. You should also contact an admin and indicate that you support that person becoming an advanced contributor. This way, admins will know that there is a demand for a specific contributor to become an advanced contributor, and if they do apply, their application will be more likely to be accepted.

Conditions to become an advanced contributor

This status is given to users who are fairly familiar with the project and have made sufficient contributions to it.

First, make sure you have read and understood the ENTIRE guide to being a good contributor.

The decision to grant you the status of advanced contributor depends on:

  • how long you have been a member (in general we would wait until you've been a member for at least two weeks)
  • how much you have contributed (which is not limited to adding sentences and translations; comments on sentences also count)
  • how well you understand Tatoeba (especially the concepts of "linking" and "tagging")
  • how many other members support your candidacy

Pending requests

Below are the list of contributors whose requests to become advanced contributors are still being considered. The admin(s) contacted is (are) indicated in parentheses.
